Punch through your comfort zone or just learn to laugh at yourself (and others, of course). Improv increases the joy and laugher in your world, whether you’re playing, learning or watching it. Open play nights, workshops, classes and shows. Secure those bragging rights.
Open Play Nights are just what they say: Open! Improvisors of all levels, ages and abilities gather once or twice a week to jump into the form. An experienced improvisor leads 8-10 players through a series of improv theater exercises, games and formats for two hours of hilarity and exploration. This is not a class though some side coaching may be given. Space fills up quickly so sign up fast! Audience is welcome.
The 9-week classes are taught by talented, experienced instructors to get your “Yes…and” flowing and creativity rolling.
Fundamentals of Improv
- Fundamentals focus on the improv basics such as “Yes…and” along with other guidelines. Get comfortable with failure and explore your comfort zone through short-form improv comedy games and improv theater exercises.
Introduction to Long Form
- With Round 1’s basics in hand, players learn about the art of scene work. Character development, relationship building, and improvised set design are covered. The nuances and tricks of story telling begin to unfold.
Advanced Long Form—Nailing It!
- The players taking this class have had at least two levels of improv training. They are honing their craft in this class. Through practice and with side coaching, the students develop muscle memory for advanced long form creations.
- Seasonally, Boulder Improv produces a concentrated improv study event. These full day or half-day long sessions focus on such improv tools as character development, object work, creating accents and specific improv formats like Harold, Armondo and La Ronde.
